Neighbourhood and its characteristics

The Prague 1 district is located in the very heart of the Czech metropolis. It is adjacent to Prague 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and includes Hradčany, Staré Město, Malá Strana, Josefov, part of Nové Město, Vinohrady and Holešovice. This part of Prague occupies 553 hectares and has about 30 thousand inhabitants. The Prague 1 Town Hall can be found in Nové Město in Vodičkova Street.

Transport

Even those who like to get around the city by metro will be excited about living in Prague 1. All three metro lines run through here (A – Můstek, Muzeum, Malostranská, Staroměstská; B – Můstek, Náměstí Republiky; C – Hlavní nádraží). The local structure also includes the backbone tram lines 18 and 22, and motorists will be able to travel along the famous Národní třída and along several embankments.

Sports venues

The historic part of Prague offers not only monuments, but also several diverse sports venues. To start with, there is the YMCA Sports Centre, located on Na Poříčí Street, where you can even go swimming. On Střelecký ostrov there is the Petr Štěpánek Tennis School, and in Helichova street there is the Energy Studio, an ideal place for yoga. We can also mention the Na Františku Public Playground or the Masná Sports Complex.

Nature and greenery

Just because you may live in Prague 1, it doesn’t mean that it will be far from any greenery and nature. On the contrary! The historic centre offers several places where you can go to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city, either actively or passively.

In addition to the Petřín Gardens, which are known primarily as a romantic meeting place, there are also the Kinsky Garden, the Lobkowicz Garden and the Vrtbov Garden. Prague 1 includes two islands – Slovanský and Střelecký. They also serve the purpose of parks. Among smaller areas, there is the park by the National Museum or the Main Railway Station, or the Franciscan Garden by the Bridge. We can also recommend Lumbe’s Garden, Chotek’s Orchards or the Deer Ditch.
